Catastrophic storm surge inundation of 12 to 18 feet above ground level along with destructive waves are expected somewhere along the southwest Florida coastline from Englewood to Bonita Beach, including Charlotte Harbor. Residents in these areas should urgently follow any evacuation orders in effect.

Overnight and currently, buoys off the west coast of Florida reported wave heights in excess of 26 feet. At 500 AM EDT (0900 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Ian was located near latitude 14.7 North, longitude 73.5 West. Ian is moving toward the west near 14 mph (22 km/h).

Very active Atlantic and Caribbean. Thankfully, the Gulf of Mexico is silent now. Next week we may see South to Central Florida get attacked by a Category 2 Hurricane.
