Aug. 17, 2023, in the beginning

Western Gulf of Mexico:

A broad area of low pressure could form in the central or western Gulf of Mexico by the beginning of next week. Some slow development of this system is possible thereafter as it moves westward and approaches the western Gulf of Mexico coastline by the middle of next week. * Formation chance through 48 hours…low…near 0 percent. * Formation chance through 7 days…low…20 percent.

We’ll see where this takes us.

My concern is the volatility of the Gulf of Mexico. So many times the storms just explode quickly, not leaving people time to make the needed preparations or to evacuate. The result is people get stuck in a bad situation with limited options for a bare-bones living.

Here, we have a full-house generator, food and coffee. We live in a land of plenty. However, we have survived a number of storms and have the needed skills to survive. Many do not. It is for those that I beg to stay aware. Make it your responsibility and habit to check local meteorological reports and make a plan with your family.
